What is PTSD?
PTSD stands for Post traumatic stress disorder. It's when someone has experienced a very traumatic experience and later on in life, small things can trigger that same experience in the persons body, mind and feelings. And it's like they are repeatedly experiencing the same traumatic event over and over again.
How can a dog or animal help me if I have PTSD?
If properly trained, the animal will sense when their human is having a PTSD episode and will (hopefully) immediately rush to their side to help them through it and remind them of reality. The act of petting the dog calms the human down and brings them back into the light. Aswell, petting a dog releases a hormone in both human and dog called Oxytocin,(Also known as the cuddle hormone) During the process of petting the Feel-Good hormones; serotonin and prolactin are also released which helps lower the stress hormone cortisol .
How can I help a dog or animal with PTSD?
Adoption, love, food, care and showing that you are there for them helps :)
How do I apply for a puppy?
Go to "Contact us" under the welcome menu and send us a little email acquiring about the selected puppy or dog and we will send you a questionnaire and the adoption application. But please note that filling out the application does not guarantee that you will get the puppy you are interested in, as each human and puppy is assessed and matched together, so that are met. (Ex: A shy dog would not fit well with a boisterous family with fifty kids. Although it may feel comfortable in a quiet household with one or two people and a fish.)
What if I am not a person with PTSD, but I am interested in adopting a puppy?
Yes! However the interested party would be put onto a waiting list, in order to ensure that the people who really need a companion would have the opportunity first.
How do I volunteer?
Fill out the contact form and we will send you a questionnaire and volunteer application so we then can set up a meeting to get to know you a little before you start volunteering with us.
How much is the adoption fee if I am not a Veteran?
It's a sliding scale donation between $150-$300 depending on the dog, the affordability and willingness of the potential adopter (The adoption fee is no gain to us, it solely is to cover the care costs of the animal). We also accept dog food donations, puppy formula, new dog toys, pet and cleaning supplies etc. As well as a work option where the adoptee offers their time to help the sanctuary to help pay for the care of the animal.
Why is adoption free to Veterans?
The decision was made when a loved member of the Ivy's Angels family passed away from an unforeseen illness. Being a Veteran himself he was unable to find an available therapy dog before he passed. We didn't want any Veteran to have to go through what bruce did, and thus in memory of Bruce Kevin McWilliams we decided to make adoption free.
What is the rainbow bridge?
It's a cute term pet owners use to describe the passing of a pet. Ex: "Rocky just passed over the rainbow bridge, he will be missed"
I can't have animals where I live, can I sponsor a dog? If so how much will it cost?
Of course! All the interested party will have to do is contact us and we will send the person an application. The cost is a sliding scale, which is basically whatever the sponsor is willing to donate. However, the more a person is willing to donate, the more VIP experience with the pet the person will receive.
What does sponsoring a dog include?
The sponsor donates a certain amount money and they will receive VIP access to the selected pup or puppies. And by sponsoring the donator will receive a Ivy's Angels doggy bag full of surprises as a big thank you from the whole team as well as countless other items and opportunities!
How do I foster a dog?
We are always in need of fosters, so feel free to contact us for more information on how to foster, and we will send you a questionnaire and an application for the foster care.
I don't know if I want a dog right now, but can I try one out for a week or two?
Yes! The interested person would have to fill out an application similar to the foster form and pay a small fee- as for however long the stay. The dog would need to come with food and all the necessities supplied by the sanctuary.

Where did the name "Ivy's Angels" come from?
Ivy's Angels is named after one of our rainbow dogs now long passed over the rainbow bridge. And the inspiration for it all. Ivy was a grandmother soul and her life cycle ended too soon. But though her name her legacy is made and will continue to shine!
Angels comes from the idea that all dogs are angels, that they are a gift sent from heaven to help heal the world in the form of furry little angels. And plus, what is god spelt backwards? He obviously had big plans for dogs.
